"Does God Exist?" Harris vs. Wolpe (Full Video)

This post is a good follow up to last weeks "Does God Exist" debate between Hitchens and Boteach.

On November 6, 2007 American Jewish University hosted a debate between Sam Harris and Rabbi David Wolpe on the subject of "the existence of God and the role of religion and faith in society." Unlike the debaters in the last video these guys have a real discussion. Both debaters score points on each other and I find that Wolpe offers a lot to think about even if I think Harris ultimately carries the day.

It's like you're reading my mind. I thought the exact same thing after I watched that video. Wolpe did pretty darn good, even though Harris in the end is right.

I'm not as anti moderate as Harris is especially after this debate. I still think they have irrational beliefs but I don't seem them as particularly dangerous.

Yeah, people do all kinds of bad things in the name of their sports teams (like riot after championships) but you don't see many atheists decrying organized sports.

Fighting irrational beliefs is well... you know.

That's true. (Hence the HT at the bottom). But I embedded it! [chest out, thumbs behind suspenders]

Now I just need to figure out how to keep it from playing automatically. :(

You guys must be very efficient having the time to watch something as lengthy as this.

BHB,

When you watch as much television as our generation does finding time for this is a piece of cake. ;)

Frankly I can't give an objective opinion as I have to get the sound back on my computer so I will refrain from commenting except to say thank you LNM for providing what I am sure are interesting links.

Wolpe is a former atheist.
