"We shall now speak of the power of this day's holiness"

I hit the library again (I'm addicted). I had to return Hitchens. I wasn't able to finish it in the one measly week they lend it out for. :( There are just not enough hours in the day. I'll have to go back and take it out again. On the plus side I picked up some more heresy. (Woot!) Here is my latest haul:

The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins (I figure I should see what all the fuss is about.)
and,
A Brief History of Time by Professor Stephen Hawking (I've been reading the complete works of Baal Habos and it keeps popping up. Plus, Hawking was on ST:TNG.)

Add these two to my earlier catch of Thus Spoke Zarathustra, by Friedrich Nietzsche, and I have more to read than I can possible finish over a three. day. yom. tov. Speaking of which, Shoot Me Now.

Shalom Auslander, my favorite ex-frummie (whom I will blog about in the future), has a promotional video on his website for his new book Foreskin's Lament: A Memoir. This short video (about 4:00) sums up my feelings on Rosh HaShanah.
Watch it!

Pray I don't die by beast. Happy New Year everyone!

Hey, I'm flattered! and thanks for the plug.

BTW , theres a new book out now, a little less daunting. "A Briefer History of time". Also, by Hawking.

Have a git yahr and don't forget the Eruv Tavshilin or your wife might get upset.

I think it's cool that you're using your soul-searching time to do some reading. i've tried to get through that Hawking book twice, but I always get stuck in the beginning... my suggestion is to not get bogged down and just try to get the main idea from each chapter!

BTW, it's truly ridiculous that people should get so upset about how another person dresses... pathetic! They all masturbated growing up and still feel guilty about it.

same as benjamin, also picked up a used copy of a brief history of time at a booksellers table by NYU, read the first thirty pages, felt really cool reading it on the subway but couldn't concentrate. same thing with thus spake zarathustra. i might pick up the hawking again, but the nietzsche is pretty much filler for the bookcase.

baal habos,
I saw those other Hawking books at the library. I will definitely check them out.

benjamin,
Thanks for the tip on Hawking. There've been a couple of paragraphs I've had to read a dozen times. But I'm progressing!

kosherchinese,
I agree with you about Zarathrustra. It can get pretty tedious. I think I know what he was going for but I will save that theory for a blog entry.

I liked the video. but can I ask why people have to keep their ideas of G-d so two-dimensional? There is a thought-process beyond what they have fed you...(sorry, pet peeve.)
